Baron Leacock

For Dupage county board

Dear friends,

I was lucky to grow up in Darien with my parents and two older sisters.  I was the first in my family born in the US and I have never forgotten that.  My father grew up without running water or electricity and his son (me!) went to Harvard University.  Anything is possible here.

I live in Hinsdale now with my beautiful wife and three young children.  I received my law degree from Columbia University in New York. I’ve worked in several industries including real estate development, tax consulting, and tech startups.  I’ve lived all over the US, but I returned to DuPage because I want my kids to be from here.

DuPage County is a special place. Generations of great leadership have bestowed upon us a county consistently rated nationwide as one of the best places to live. But past momentum can only carry a community so far.

We cannot allow ourselves to be distracted from the basic common sense governing principles that got us here, like safe streets and schools, and low taxes. So many are discouraged from speaking out for basic common sense these days. But now is exactly the time to do so, while we still can, so our kids can too when it’s their time.

Sincerely,

Baron Leacock

Top Priorities

DuPage County has long been one of the safest communities in the country.  But ineffective policy and enforcement decisions being made in distant cities like Chicago, Springfield, and even Washington DC are having an impact on our community.

Baron’s top priority is to keep our community safe.  He’s been impressed with the leadership of State’s Attorney Bob Berlin and Sheriff Jim Mendrick and the performance of the officers, attorneys and support staff across the county who work hard every day to hold the line.  It will be critical in the coming months and years to support the programs and policies that have been proven to work.  Coordination across offices, rapid response times, perpetrators being held accountable, and successful rehabilitation for those determined to turn their lives around, and more, are hallmarks of effective policies that Baron supports.

DuPage residents are facing challenging economic headwinds these days with rising costs in every aspect of our everyday life, from high interest rates to the cost of food.  In these times, county government must not add to those burdens with high taxes or undisciplined spending, but instead must be an agent of support and growth for our thriving local economy.

Baron will work hard to make sure our residents are not burdened with increasing, unexpected or even hidden-from-view, taxes.  He will champion balancing budgets while maintaining and improving state-of-the-art county services.  And he will work to ensure that DuPage remains a community that attracts great residents and great businesses well into the future.

An important part of Baron’s mission is protecting the vulnerable within our community.  At the forefront of Baron’s priorities are initiatives to combat human trafficking and drug addiction, and to safeguard the elderly and our children in school.

Unfortunately, DuPage is not immune to the scourge of human trafficking. Through partnerships with law enforcement, community organizations and advocacy groups, we will work to eliminate this heinous crime from our county and provide support to survivors.  Recognizing the devastating impact of drug addiction on individuals and families, we will promote accessible rehabilitation services, mental health resources, and community-based prevention programs.  Understanding the unique vulnerabilities faced by our elderly citizens, we will advocate for policies that enhance their safety, well-being and access to quality healthcare. And for our children, just starting out in life, we will work to ensure that the schools they attend are safe, effective and transparent.
